DOROTHY MARIE MILLER, 84, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Village of Heritage Nursing Home, Monroeville. Born in Fort Wayne, she loved and cared for her family. Her love and care for others was abundant, she volunteered at the Lutheran Home for many years. She was a member of D.A.V.A. - Elmer Pond Chapter #1, Fort Wayne. Surviving are her son, Rae (Sheila) Walter Miller of Hoagland; brother, Jack E. Hayes of Fort Wayne; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Richard W. Miller; father, Walter Frank Hayes; mother, Marie Pauline Hayes; son, Rollen Patrick Miller; and brother, Arthur J. Hayes. Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2010, at D.O. ROLAND W. MASENTHIN

ROLAND W. MASENTHIN, 75, of Monroeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Elmer and Alice Masen-thin. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven where he was active in many church offices. He started and operated the New Haven Food Bank for six years. He retired in 1991 after teaching for St. John Flatrock Lutheran School for 10 years and Monroeville Elementary School for 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian; children, Mark (Jani) Masenthin of Indianapolis and Michaele (Terry) Repak of Macedonia, Ohio; grandchildren, Ross and Jon, both of Indianapolis; and sister, Marilyn Masenthin of Fort Wayne. PAMELA S. VOIROL, 50, of Monroeville, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 9:15 p.m., at her residence. Born May 27, 1960, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Wetzel and Peggy M. (Simpson) Wetzel. She married Joseph A. Voirol on Nov. 14, 1992, in Fort Wayne. She was a homemaker and owner/master gardener of Black Swamp Ornamental Grasses. Surviving are her husband of 17 years, Joseph; sisters, Vickie (Tom) LaFever of Churubusco, Deb (Larry) Waybright of South Whitley and Shelly (Greg) Krafft of Auburn; and brother, Tom (Shirley) Wetzel of Orlando, Fla. DAVID A. CRABILL, 57, of Monroeville, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, 8:08 p.m., at the Parkview Hospital Emergency Room, after being stricken a short time earlier at his home. David was employed at REA Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne for the past 22 years as a Maintenance Electrician. He and his wife operated the D & M Magneto Repair & Rebuilding. He was currently a member of the Monroeville Town Council and the 50th Virginia Carpenters Battery. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn K. Crabill of Monroeville; his daughter, Amy M. (Shon) McCullough of Fort Wayne; his brother, Eugene F. (Nancy) Crabill of Greensburg, Ind.; and his mother-in-law, Eileen Tieman of Monroeville. DONALD A. SMITH, 82, of Monroeville, died Friday, June 25, 2010, 10:49 a.m., at Lutheran Hospital, following an illness of five days. Born on Sept. 19, 1927, in Fort Wayne, son of the late Donald A. Smith and Twila (Hipp) Smith, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Nellie V. Giant on Sept. 3, 1949, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville; she passed away on June 6, 1991. Don was a retired electrician, retiring in 2001 from Haugk Plumbing & Heating in Decatur, with 11 years of service. He also worked at International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 20 years and Magnavox in Fort Wayne for 10 years. Don was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and American Legion, Monroeville No. 420. He is survived by sister-in-law, Marietta Rorick of Monroeville; special friend of 19 years, Janice Ross of Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Louise Swyhart. Born June 9, 1933, in Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Virgil M. Brown and Mary (Justinger) Brown. She married Homer D. GARLAND K. "CASEY" KEISTER, 87, of Poe, passed away on Tuesday, May 11,2010, at his home. Born Jan. 3, 1923, in Whitley County, he was a son of the late Silas and Vera (Bills) Keister. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from G.E. in 1984 as a Foreman. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and American Legion Post 241. Surviving are his sons, Robert (Patty) Keister of Sturgis, Mich. and Bryan (Joni) Keister of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Longly of Chicago, Ill., David (Amanda) Keister and Lauren Keister, both of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Caleb, both of Fort Wayne; half brother, Orin Cummins of Columbia City; and half sister, Georgia Lock of Larwill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Kleinknight) Keister, in April of 2009. Chelsea Kay Hart, 15 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Parkview Hospital following an accident. She was born on Thursday, January 12, 1995 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the daughter of William Hart and Karen (Hockemeyer) Hart. Chelsea was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and was a freshman at Heritage High School where she was a member of the Heritage Girl's Softball Team. Chelsea had a personality that could and did illuminate the entire world. From being a perfect friend to an even better daughter and sister, Chelsea and her heart of gold will always be remembered in a positive way. She was blessed with a smile that captured the hearts of many and a laugh known by all. She will remain in our hearts forever. SCOTT C. LAY, 50, of Monroeville, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, 5:21 a.m., at his resi dence, following an illness of seven months. Born April 24, 1959, in Portland, Ind., he was the son of Peggy A. (Miller) Bagley and the late Sidney C. Lay. He married Sheryl A. Wenger on July 19, 1980, in St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville; a former member of Post 420 American Legion, Monroeville; a former member of the Allen County Sheriff's Reserve; and a graduate of Jay County High School Class of 1977. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1979. He was a technical support engineer for Brocade Communications Co. and previously McData for the past 12 years. He was a volunteer with the TECH Team at Cornerstone Youth Center and enjoyed working on the computers at St. Joseph Catholic School, both in Monroeville. Surviving are his wife, Sheryl A. Bruick on Aug. 25, 1962; she survives in Monroeville. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, Monroeville; a graduate of Hoagland High School Class of 1959; and attended Carpenter Apprenticeship School for four years. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, Jeff Gordon, Chicago Cubs, IU basketball, John Deere tractors, and most all sports. He was a carpenter and farmer; retired from International Harvester with over 19 years of service; and then had been employed at General Motors from 1986 to 2006. RICHARD A. "DICK" MARTIN, 71, of rural New Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, 9:45 a.m., at his residence following a two year battle with cancer. Born March 15, 1938, in Allen County, she was a daughter of the late Honora L. Martin and Ursula C. (Hoffman) Martin. He married Rita M. Brames on Aug. 3, 1957, at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church; she survives in New Haven. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary in August of 2009. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville and Sons of the Legion Post 420, Monroeville. He enjoyed antique tractors, gardening, and his grandchildren. He worked in the parts department of International Harvester, retiring after 30 years of service in 1986. Also surviving are his daughter, Jean (Kevin) Fick of Monroeville; sons, James A. (Linda) Martin of Monroeville and Jerold A. (Becky) Martin of Fort Wayne; sister, Rita A. Reuille of Monroeville; brothers, Howard L. Martin and Robert J. FREDERICK L. HOFFMAN, 67, of Monroeville, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, 1 p.m., at his residence after a brief illness. Surviving are the late Nicholas Hoffman and Edna (Herder-horst) Hoffman. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Flatrock. He was an active farmer and enjoyed the outdoors. He retired from International Harvester Company in Fort Wayne after 23 years of service and also retired from Goeglein's Catering, Fort Wayne after 17 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Susan K. (Ball) Hoffman of Monroeville; daughters, Cynthia (Douglas) Bergdall of Decatur and Catherine Shull of Farmland, Ind.; sons, Larry Hoffman and Paul (Renisea) Hoffman, both of Fort Wayne; brother, Kenneth Hoffman of Monroeville; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant brother, Paul Hoffman. Private service will be held at a later date. No visitation. RUSS GASKILL, 73, of Monroeville, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, 7:15 p.m., at his residence. He retired from Phelps Dodge-Magnet Wire, Fort Wayne, in January of 1988 after 32 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army for three years. Surviving are his wife, Colleen Gaskill of Monroeville; sons, Danny (Veronica) Gaskill of Land O Lakes, Fla. and Rodney Gaskill of Monroeville; daughter, Becky (Jerold) Martin of Fort Wayne; brothers, Roger (Sue) Gaskill of Chapel Hill, Tenn. and Doug (Carol) Gaskill of Van Wert, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Tom Jones and Russ Jones, both of Monroeville; sister-in-law, Carole Gaskill of Monroeville; and six grandchildren. Born on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1921, in Dixon, Ohio, daughter of the late Howard O. Carrier and the late Beulah (Gilbert) Carrier, she was a graduate of Convoy High School in Convoy, Ohio. She married Ray E. "Daddy" Ball on June 30, 1945 in Monroeville; he passed away on March 25, 1995. Mabel was a member of Monroeville United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Surviving are her daughter, Jean C. (Jim) Patterson of Monroeville; son, Dale (Sheryl) Ball of Convoy, Ohio; sister, Doris Meyer of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Erica and David Ball, Burt and Brad Patterson; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Brooklyn Burkhalter and Ashlin Pattern. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Burton Carrier; one sister, Betty Ball; and two infant brothers. VALERA G. WASS, 95, lifetime resident of the Monroeville area, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, 10 a.m., at The Village of Heritage in Monroe-ville. She was born on June 24, 1914, in Convoy, Ohio. She married Emerson D. "Sid" Wass on March 8, 1935, in Fort Wayne; he passed away Jan. 21, 2001. Valera was a member of East Liberty United Methodist Church of rural Monroeville, as well as a homemaker. She is survived by her daughters, A. Louise Hammond and Shirley A. HAROLD F. HOCKEMEYER

HAROLD F. HOCKEMEYER, 84, formerly of Monroeville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at home. Born in Mon-roeville, he was the son of the late Fred and Emelia Hocke-meyer. He was a lifelong Allen County resident, a farmer and part time milk truck driver. He retired from Sears Roebuck as a service technician after 34 years. He married June Rose Rohlfing on May 23, 1948; she survives. After retirement, Harold enjoyed winters in Bradenton, Fla., golfing, IU basketball, Colts Football, and playing cards. He volunteered his free time to various organizations and delivered flowers in the summer. He is also survived by his children, Dennis (Teresa) Hockemeyer of Fort Wayne and Sandra (Ed) Seeley of New Haven; sister, Lorena Hockemeyer of Decatur; grandchildren, Chris Seeley and Kelly Filipowicz, both of Indianapolis, Angela Perry of Bloomington and Ryan Hockemeyer of Fort Wayne; and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Edgar, Hilbert and Walter Hockemeyer. Meghan A. Hormann

Died January 7, 2010

Meghan Andrea Hormann, 26 years old of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Loyola University Medical Center located in Maywood, Illinois. Her death followed a brief illness of one month.

Meghan was born on Wednesday, October 19, 1983 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the daughter of Randall W. Hormann and Kayleen S. (Niemeyer) Hormann, whom survive.

Meghan was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling in rural Decatur. She was a member of the Lake View Chamber of Commerce in Chicago and CRAVE Professional Women's Organization, where she was recently featured as a prominent business woman in Chicago.

Meghan was owner and executive Director of BackBeat Music Instruction in Chicago, Illinois, which she founded in 2007. She was a 2002 graduate of Bellmont High School. Following her graduation, she attended the University of Indianapolis where she majored in Music Technologhy. While in Indianapolis, she devoted her time to helping minority students and non-English speaking parents as well as autistic children. Following her graduation from the University of Indianapolis, she continued working toward her Master's Degree in Music Business at Columbia College in Chicago.

Surviving are her parents, Randy & Kayleen Hormann of Hoagland, sister, Leah Hormann of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister, Camryn Hormann of Hoagland, paternal grandmother, Renate Hormann of Fort Wayne, maternal grandmother, Arlene Niemeyer of Hoagland, boyfriend, Grant Cavaliere of LaGrange Park, Illinois; and her godchild, Jenna Niemeyer of Hoagland.

Preceding Meghan in death was her paternal grandfather, Clarence Hormann and her maternal grandfather, Kenneth Niemeyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Gadbaw and Chaplain David Griebel officiating. Interment will follow in the Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Gertrude L. Deister

(February 4, 1910 - January 6, 2010)

Gertrude L. Deister, 99, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Woodview Healthcare in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she had been a resident for the past year.

Gertrude was born on February 4, 1910 in Marion Township, Allen County, Indiana the daughter of the late William Scheumann and the late Emma (Oetting) Scheumann. She married Hermann Deister on May 8, 1943 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and he passed away on December 15, 1973.

Gert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. She was involved in the Ladies Aid, LWML and St. John’s Guild and also the Hoagland Area Advancement Associationi where she was the Grand Marshall of the 2000 Hoagland Days Event. Gert was employed at General Electric for fourteen years and was a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital for seventeen years.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy J. Sprague of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Connie K. (Wayne) Carstens of Ninety Six, South Carolina; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding Gert in death were six brothers: Walter, Harold, Wilbert, Emil, Herbert, and William Scheumann Jr. and five sisters: Adella Thompson, Agnes Hockemeyer, Emma Hollman, Luella Oehler, and Velma Hockemeyer.

Funeral services will be he at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor John Dreyer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends will be receivedfrom 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Marlene J. Pierce, 66 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away 1:35 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2009 in the Parkview Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Marlene was born on Wednesday, January 13, 1943 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late Luther Gibson and the late Mary H. (Feasby) Gibson. She married Keith D. Pierce on July 2, 1966 in the Parkview Chapel.

Marlene was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church in rural Monroeville, Indiana.

Marlene was a homemaker and a former L.P.N. nurse at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for several years.

Surviving are her husband, Keith D. Pierce of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Leslie R. Pierce of Elk Grove, California; son, Christopher K. (Kellie) Pierce of Monroeville, Indiana; brother, James W. Gibson of Convoy, Ohio; and three grandchildren: Kelsie Diglin; Madelyn and Lillian Pierce.

William T. "Bill" North

William T. "Bill" North, 83 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana.

He was born on Tuesday, October 5, 1926 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Loren North and the late Margaret (Davies) North. He married Shirley A. Youse on October 26, 1952 in Hoagland, Indiana and she survives.

Bill was an active member of the Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland, Indiana; and treasurer of the church for many years. In his earlier years, he was active in Scouting; the Full Gospel Business News; and the Hoagland Area Advancement Association. Bill served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bill was an electrician at International Harvester in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for 37 years, retiring in 1981.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. North of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Thomas (Sandra) North of Roswell, Georgia; son, Timothy North of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Terry North (Mary Ann Pearsall) of Florham Park, New Jersey; daughter, Tina (Douglas) Bulmahn of Churubusco, Indiana; sister, Esther Boroff of Odessa, Texas; sister, Jean Kinsey of Pompano Beach, Florida; sister, Vivian (Dale) Brown of Poe, Indiana; and six grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew, Jamie, Anna, Emma, and Amalia.

MARY L. AXSON, 85, of Monroeville, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, 5:50 a.m., at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She is survived by sons, John E. (Carolyn) Axson of Monroeville and Joey E. Axson of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, John E. Axson and Cassandra Foust; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Foust, Morgan Foust and Connor Axson; brothers, Robert Scott and Fred Scott, both of Continental, Ohio, Darrold Scott of Paulding, Ohio, Harold Scott of Continental, Ohio and Tom Scott of Payne, Ohio; and sister, Flossie Chapman of Spencerville. October 27, 1963 - December 16, 2009

Duane A. Judt, 46, of Fremont, and formerly of Hoagland, Indiana, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola.
Mr. Judt was a quality control technician at Cold Heading in Fremont and formerly worked at Amcast Automotive in Fremont.
He was born Oct. 27, 1963, in Fort Wayne to Charles W. Judt and Patricia (Hoffman) Coburn. His mother survives in Largo, Fla., and his father preceded him in death.
He married Jann R. Coles on June 29, 1996, in Fremont. She survives in Fremont.
Surviving with his wife and mother are a sister, Kallie S. Freed of Largo, Fla.; a brother, Robert Judt of Largo, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Ginger and Heather; four stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; nine nephews; and six nieces.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday December 19, 2009 at Beams Funeral Home, 200 W. Toledo St., Fremont.
Burial will be at a later date in Monroeville.

Born May 30, 1923, in Decatur, she was the daughter of the late Lafait Maddox and Willie (Cotton) Maddox. She married Lloyd C. Ball on June 4, 1946, in Georgia; he passed away on April 7, 2007. A Woodburn resident since 1946, she was a homemaker and beautician in her home for 17 years from 1956 to 1973. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Payne, Ohio, Ladies Aid of the church, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 420, Monroeville; V.F.W. 2457, New Haven; was a graduate of Monroeville High School Class of 1941. She enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling, and fishing. Surviving are her son, Armond J. "Arnie" (Sandy) Ball of Fort Wayne; daughter, Kathleen J. Mott of Antwerp, Ohio; son, John L. (Darlene) Ball of Woodburn; daughter, Jone L. (Nicholas) Nicholoff of Monroeville; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Leonard served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Balduck, serving three years, three months, three days as a metalsmith. He married Aleta R. Singer on Feb. 5, 1946, in San Diego, Calif., they were married over 62 years; she preceded him in death on June 10, 2008. Leonard was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, and enjoyed woodworking, growing flowers, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne M.
